A delegation from the Mexican state of Sonora recently toured the San Xavier Underground Mine (in Spanish) as part of a joint training program run by the University of Arizona, AIMMGM Sonora District and Sonora Ministry of Education. The training program integrated practice, research and industry knowledge to emphasize technological innovation, safety and sustainability.

The Sonoran delegation, which included members of the AIMMGM Sonora District’s Steering Committee, Women WIM Sonora and representatives from Sonora’s education and mining sectors, was immersed in mine operations, research and teaching.

"With these types of programs, we strengthen knowledge and skills to strengthen our mining industry. The vision of those of us who work in the sector is to operate responsibly, innovatively, and sustainably. Mining done right, with great social benefits," said Roberto Sitten Ayala, president of AIMMGM Sonora District.

The San Xavier Mine, part of MineWerx, is a one-of-a-kind training laboratory for students and professionals alike. It features standard mining technologies as well as novel concepts, serving as a tech proving ground.
