Tips for Job Seekers

Keep your resume up-to-date and have more than one resume. The days of having one resume are over! Always keep your resume relevant to the job you are applying for, and include relevant key words that appear in the job posting.

and keep it professional. This is an employer’s first impression of you, so make it count!

Apply for jobs you feel slightly underqualified for. Even if you don't meet every requirement in a job posting, if you're willing to put in the time and effort to learn, the employer may give you a chance. Convince them why you're a good fit in the interview.
Use LinkedIn (LI). Using LI can give you valuable networking opportunities with other professionals in a similar field. Connecting with those who share similar interests or work in your desired industry can offer better insight and future mentorship or job opportunities.  Talk to your professors about your job search. Our School of Mining and Mineral Resources faculty have outstanding backgrounds in mineral and earth science related fields. Reach out to them to see if they’ve seen any openings and ask if they could write you a letter of recommendation.
Check in with UA Student Engagement and Career Development.  Be yourself, and always be kind. Especially in academia, you never know when you will run into a classmate or professor again in the professional world. When it’s time for that interview, make sure your personality shows. Identify the skills you have to offer and show them what you bring to the table.
