Meet us at the AGU Fall Meeting, where members of UArizona faculty and students will hold multiple presentations. AGU22 offers attendees in-person and online experiences to foster networking and professional growth, provide exposure to emerging ideas from scientific thought-leaders, and support research.

Chris Earnest, Educational Outreach Coordinator, will be presenting on ways the School is utilizing various tools to communicate to the public, K-12 students, and college students about the importance of mineral resources. “To meet the challenges around providing mineral resources to a growing world, government, industry, and educational institutions will need more earth scientists,” says Earnest.

The award-winning outreach program creates an educational program that works across disciplines that provides “hands-on and virtual activities that give students a wide range of ways to engage in the material.”

Earnest emphasizes that it’s essential to get to the educators and make strong connections within the community on top of creating outreach materials. Students are more likely to remember face to face interactions so the outreach program values their in-person experiences which promote fruitful results. On top of classroom presentations, the team works with the Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum, and the San Xavier Mining Laboratory to provide these experiences to students and the public.

This presentation is a great opportunity for Earth science educators everywhere to learn more about connecting students to the importance of mineral resources.
