Registration process for students:

If you are interested in learning more about the January in Tucson courses or plan to enroll, please read the entirety of this message to get information on registration, where to access course resources, important deadlines, and course expectations.

If you have any questions, please contact Justin Boro at justinboro1986@arizona.edu

Registration Process

This year January in Tucson courses will be in the spring 2023. JD, dual degree JD/MPS, and graduate students from other programs outside the law school need to get department approval by emailing IPLP Program Coordinator Andrea Bojorquez (mabojorq@arizona.edu) with your course selections. If you require department approval, the deadline to add JIT courses to your schedule is January 3.

Since the courses only run for 3 consecutive days, we may not be able to get you access to the course D2L page if you register right before the start of a class. Early course registration is encouraged!

Community D2L

All January in Tucson courses will have a community D2L course page. To access the JIT course pages, visit https://community.d2l.arizona.edu/d2l/loginh/ and log in using the University log-in with your NetId.

Course Modality

Most January in Tucson courses will be in person. The Navajo Common Law course will be live-online via Zoom.

The Tribal Gaming Law and Regulation course will be offered in person at the Pascua Yaqui Tribe-University of Arizona Microcampus, January 19-21, 1:30-5:50PM. If you would like to register for the Tribal Gaming Law and Regulation course, you will need to register for the course as Independent Study. Please contact Justin Boro for more information.

The address for the Pascua Yaqui Microcampus is: 7400 South Settler Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85746

Spring 2023 Add/Drop/Withdrawal Deadlines

January in Tucson (JIT) courses will have different add/drop/withdrawal deadlines. Course deadlines are calculated based on when course start and end dates (typically called “non-standard class dates" or “dynamically dated”) are so please keep in mind that dropping a class within the refund deadline will not automatically process a refund.

For example, for Spring 2023, the last day to add a class on your own is 1/18/23 in a regular academic session. That is about one week after the first day of classes and, as you can imagine, a one-week deadline like that would not work with the shortened JIT courses.

To find out what the deadlines are, please go to main campus’ Dates and Deadlines website. The dates will automatically be calculated for each specific class, review them very carefully.

JIT courses and deadlines will appear on the website once the courses are ready for enrollment. Additionally, there’s a guide for navigating the website in case you are having some difficulty: Navigating Dates and Deadlines. These deadlines will be the same deadlines that the MPS department, Law School Registrar, Main Campus Registrar, and the Bursar’s office will be using.

If there are any questions regarding these dates, contact the Law School Registrar at law-registrar@arizona.edu

Course Expectations

January in Tucson courses have assigned readings that students are expected to complete before the first day of classes to inform in-class lecture, discussion, and exercises. Please check your Community D2L page before the first day of class to find what “day 0” readings are assigned.

Also note that January in Tucson courses meet 3 consecutive days. Please reference the course calendar below for class meeting times/dates.
For example, for a class that meets in person January 9-11 you can expect:
1/8 (Sunday, “day 0” pre-reading)
1/9-1/11 (Monday-Wednesday, in-class)
1/12-1/14 (Thursday-Saturday, readings/papers/etc.)

Since the course meeting times occur over 3 days, missing 1 day of class will mean you can’t complete the course without approval from the instructor for a way to make up the missed time and in person activities.
